Heartopia is designed to be played everywhere — on your phone during your commute, on PC at home, or on console from the couch. This guide covers everything you need to know about cross-platform play, account management, cloud synchronization, and keeping your save data safe across all your devices.

Supported Platforms

Heartopia is available on seven platforms, all sharing the same game world and servers.

Platform Notes

PlatformKey Differences
Mobile (iOS/Android)Free-to-play with optional microtransactions; touch controls optimized; lowest graphics settings by default
Steam (PC)Includes Steam Achievements (42 achievements); Steam Cloud save backup; keyboard shortcuts; highest graphics quality
Epic (PC)Same as Steam minus achievements; occasional Epic-exclusive cosmetic DLC bundles
Nintendo SwitchPortable mode with touch controls; local wireless co-op (2-8 Switch consoles); no text chat (emotes only)
PlayStationDualSense haptic feedback for fishing/mining; trophy system (Platinum trophy available)
XboxXbox Live Gold required for online co-op; Game Pass Ultimate includes Heartopia

All platforms share the same servers. A mobile player and a PC player can visit each other’s towns and play together seamlessly. See our Multiplayer Guide for co-op details.

⚠️ Premium Currency & Platform Locks: Moonlight Crystals (Paid) purchased via the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) are locked to their respective platform store policies. Paid crystals will not show in your PC wallet, though any items you buy with them (outfits, wishing stars, battle passes) will sync globally. If you want to use them on PC, convert the crystals to Wishing Stars on your mobile device first before logging into your PC.

Account Systems

Creating an Account

Heartopia uses the XD Account system as its primary account backbone, with platform-specific login options layered on top.

Registration Methods

XD AccountEmail + passwordCross-platform players (recommended)

Apple IDApple accountiOS users
FacebookFacebook accountSocial players

Cross-platform save sync❌ (locked to platform)
Cloud backupPlatform-dependent
Account recovery✅ Email-basedPlatform-dependent
Friend list portability
Multi-device login✅ Up to 3 devices❌ Single device

Critical: If you log in with Google on Android and later switch to Steam on PC, your save data will NOT transfer unless both are linked to the same XD Account. Always create an XD Account first and bind platform logins to it.

Account Binding

How to Bind Multiple Platforms

  1. Create an XD Account — Settings → Account → Register
  2. Log in with XD Account on your primary device
  3. Open Binding Menu — Settings → Account → Linked Accounts
  4. Select platform to bind — tap Google / Apple / Facebook / Steam / Nintendo / PSN / Xbox
  5. Authorize — follow the platform-specific OAuth flow
  6. Confirm — the platform appears as “Linked” in your account menu

Binding Matrix

Apple IDXD, FacebookGoogle, Steam, Nintendo, PSN, Xbox
SteamXDGoogle, Apple, Facebook, Nintendo, PSN, Xbox
NintendoXDGoogle, Apple, Facebook, Steam, PSN, Xbox

Tip: Bind everything to an XD Account. It’s the only way to unify all platform logins under one save file.

Unbinding a Platform

If you need to unbind a platform (e.g., selling a console, switching accounts):

  1. Settings → Account → Linked Accounts
  2. Select the platform → “Unlink”
  3. Confirm the warning prompt

Warning: Unbinding does NOT delete your save data. It only removes the login shortcut. Your save remains tied to your XD Account. However, if you unbind your only login method and don’t remember your XD credentials, you’ll lose access.

Cloud Sync & Data Transfer

How Cloud Sync Works

Heartopia uses automatic cloud sync — your save data is uploaded to XD’s servers continuously during gameplay.

Sync EventTriggerTime
Auto-saveEvery 2 minutes during gameplayInstant
Cloud uploadEvery 5 minutes + on app exit3-10 seconds
Force syncManual: Settings → Account → Sync Now5-15 seconds
Cross-deviceWhen logging in on a new device10-30 seconds

Save Data Scope

Everything in your save transfers across platforms:

Data TypeSynced?Notes

Home & furnitureFull layout preserved
Inventory & GoldAll items transfer
Hobby progressAll levels, XP, collections
Quest progressActive and completed quests
NPC friendshipsAll relationship levels
Housing layoutsAll plots and decorations

Transfer Between Devices

To switch devices:

  1. On old device: Settings → Account → Sync Now (wait for confirmation)
  2. Log out of the old device (optional — see multi-device below)
  3. On new device: Install Heartopia → Log in with your XD Account
  4. Wait for sync — the game downloads your save (10-30 seconds)
  5. Verify — check your Gold count and inventory to confirm

If sync fails: Don’t panic. Wait 5 minutes and try again. If it still fails, see the Troubleshooting section below.

Multi-Device Management

Simultaneous Login

Account TypeMax Simultaneous DevicesBehavior
XD Account3All can be online simultaneously
Platform-only1Logging in on a new device kicks the old one

When Multiple Devices Are Online

If you have 2-3 devices logged in simultaneously:

  • Co-op visits: Other devices see you as “Online” and can visit your town
  • Save conflicts: The last device to save overwrites earlier saves
  • Recommended: Only play actively on one device at a time to avoid conflicts

Device Management

Settings → Account → Device Management shows:

Security tip: Review your device list monthly. If you see an unfamiliar device, sign it out remotely and change your password.

Troubleshooting

Common Sync Issues

”Save data conflict” error

Cause: Two devices saved at nearly the same time.

Fix:

  1. The game shows both save timestamps
  2. Select the more recent save
  3. The older save is archived for 7 days (Settings → Account → Save Archive)

“Account already linked to another user”

Cause: You created a second XD Account and tried to bind a platform that’s already bound to your first account.

Fix:

  1. Log into the original XD Account
  2. Settings → Account → Linked Accounts → Unlink the platform
  3. Log into the new XD Account
  4. Re-link the platform

Cloud sync stuck at 0%

Cause: Network issue or server congestion.

Fix:

  1. Check your internet connection
  2. Close and reopen the game
  3. Settings → Account → Sync Now
  4. If still stuck, wait 30 minutes and retry (server congestion usually resolves itself)

Progress lost after switching devices

Cause: You logged in with a different account on the new device.

Fix:

  1. Log out of the new device
  2. Log in with the EXACT same XD Account credentials
  3. Force sync: Settings → Account → Sync Now
  4. If you used a platform login (e.g., Google) on the old device but didn’t bind it to XD, contact XD Support with proof of purchase

”Maximum devices reached”

Cause: You have 3 devices already logged in.

Fix:

  1. Settings → Account → Device Management
  2. Sign out of an old/inactive device
  3. Log in on the new device

”Session expired: Logged in from another location”

Cause: You are trying to log in on a second device while the game is actively running on a first device.

Fix:

  1. Heartopia does not support simultaneous active sessions across multiple devices.
  2. Log out of the first device completely before launching the game on the second device.

Data Recovery

If you’ve lost access to your account:

SituationRecovery Method
Forgot XD passwordSettings → Account → Forgot Password → email reset
Lost access to linked emailContact XD Support with player UID + purchase receipts
Account hackedContact XD Support immediately; freeze account via website
Device stolenSign out remotely from XD Account website; change password
Accidentally deleted appReinstall → log in → cloud sync restores everything

Prevention: Always bind your account to an XD Account with a valid email. Enable 2-factor authentication (2FA) in account settings for maximum security.

Account Security

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

SettingDetails
Where to enableXD Account website → Security → 2FA
MethodsAuthenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy) or SMS
EffectRequires code on new device login
Recovery codes10 one-time codes provided — store them safely

Password Best Practices

  • Use a unique password for your XD Account (not reused from other services)
  • Minimum 12 characters with letters, numbers, and symbols
  • Change password every 6 months
  • Never share your credentials — XD staff will never ask for your password

Scam Warning

Scam TypeHow It WorksPrevention
Fake giveaway sites”Free Wishing Stars” → asks for loginOnly use official in-game redemption; see our Active Codes Guide
Friend impersonation”I’m quitting, take my account”Never accept accounts from others
Phishing emailsFake XD Account emails with login linksAlways check the URL — official domain is account.xd.com
Trade scamOffers to “duplicate items”Report and block immediately

Pro Tips

1. Create Your XD Account on Day 1

Don’t wait. The moment you start the game, register an XD Account. If you’ve been playing as a guest or with a platform login, bind to XD immediately — Settings → Account → Register.

2. Bind All Platforms Before Playing

Before logging in on a new platform, make sure it’s bound to your XD Account. Unbound platform logins create separate save files that cannot be merged.

3. Force Sync Before Switching Devices

Always tap Settings → Account → Sync Now before closing the game on one device and opening it on another. This prevents 95% of sync conflicts.

4. Mobile for Dailies, PC for Sessions

Many players use mobile for quick daily check-ins (quests, mailbox, NPC gifts) and PC/console for longer play sessions (fishing, mining, painting). Your daily resource routes can be done in 15 minutes on mobile during a commute.

5. Enable Mobile Push Notifications

On mobile, enable push notifications for:

  • Daily quest reset (reminds you to claim)
  • Event start alerts (never miss a seasonal event)
  • Friend activity (know when co-op partners are online)
  • Reward expiration warnings (24-hour notice before mail rewards expire)

6. Steam Cloud + XD Sync = Double Backup

Steam players get both Steam Cloud and XD cloud sync. If one fails, the other usually has a recent backup. Check Steam Cloud status in Steam → Settings → Cloud.

7. Screenshot Your Account Info

Take a screenshot of your Account page showing your UID and linked platforms. If you ever need to contact support, having this information ready speeds up resolution significantly.

8. Check Mail on Every Device

Mail rewards from code redemptions and events can be claimed from any device but only once. If you redeem a code on mobile, the items appear in your mailbox — claim them from any device.

9. Switch Local Wireless for LAN Parties

If you and friends all have Nintendo Switch consoles, use Local Wireless mode for zero-lag co-op without internet. Perfect for offline gatherings — see our Multiplayer Guide for setup.

10. Don’t Share Accounts

Sharing accounts violates the Terms of Service and risks permanent bans. Use the multiplayer visiting feature instead — friends can visit your town and help without needing your login.

Quick Reference: Account Setup Checklist

For a new player setting up cross-platform play:

  • Create XD Account (Settings → Account → Register)
  • Verify email address
  • Enable 2FA (XD Account website → Security)
  • Bind primary platform (Google/Apple/Steam/Nintendo/PSN/Xbox)
  • Take screenshot of UID and account info
  • Enable cloud sync (Settings → Account → Cloud Sync → On)
  • On mobile: enable push notifications
  • Test cross-device login (log in on a second device to verify sync)
  • Save recovery codes in a secure location
  • Bookmark Active Codes page for future rewards

Summary

Heartopia’s cross-platform system is one of the most robust in the cozy game genre — true cross-play, automatic cloud sync, and a unified account system that lets you pick up exactly where you left off, regardless of device. The key is setting it up correctly from the start.

Key takeaways:

  • Always create an XD Account first — it’s the only way to unify all platform logins
  • All 7 platforms share the same servers — mobile and PC players coexist seamlessly
  • Cloud sync is automatic — but force-sync before switching devices to prevent conflicts
  • Up to 3 simultaneous devices per XD Account
  • Steam offers the most features (achievements, workshop, keyboard shortcuts)
  • Mobile is free-to-play with identical content — no pay-to-win mechanics
  • Enable 2FA for account security, especially if you’ve invested significant time
  • Check our Active Codes page regularly — redeemed rewards arrive in your mailbox

Play anywhere, sync everywhere, and never lose your Heartopia progress.
