Expanding your home plot provides you with a vast outdoor canvas. While interior decorating is important, designing a gorgeous yard layout with cobblestone paths, wooden fences, custom ponds, and vibrant foliage increases your plot’s comfort rating and creates a welcoming home environment. This guide covers landscaping mechanics, path paving, backyard pond setup, and organic layouts.
Paving Pathways & Walkways
Paths define the flow of your yard. You can access the Paving tool via Build Mode → Paths:
- Paving Styles:
- Cobblestone: Best for rustic and European-style gardens. Crafted with Stone x4.
- Wooden Decking: Ideal for pool patios and beach walkouts. Crafted with Softwood Plank x2.
- Mulch Path: Perfect for forest trails and farm lanes. Sourced from organic mulch (obtained from wood chipping).
- Auto-Tiling: When placing path tiles adjacent to each other, the edges automatically blend into clean curves.
Fences, Gates & Borders
Fences prevent random wild grass from invading your crop fields and organize your yard into neat zones:
- Placing Fences: Select a fence blueprint (e.g. White Picket Fence or Stone Wall) in Build Mode. Left-click and drag to place long segments quickly.
- Installing Gates: Every fence set features a matching gate (1×2 tiles). Gates automatically align and connect to fence borders.
- Hedge Borders: If you prefer organic structures, you can plant Boxwood Shrub Hedges (bought from Blanc’s Garden Shop) which function exactly like fences.
Backyard Fish Pond Sculpting
Creating water features adds motion to your plot and allows you to catch freshwater fish at home:
- Excavation: Select the Shovel tool while in Build Mode’s Landscaping tab. Click and drag on empty dirt to excavate a pond basin (requires at least a 3×3 flat area).
- Water Filling: Connect the excavated basin to an active water valve or use the Watering Can to fill it.
- Home Fishing Pools: Once a pond is filled, you can stock it by releasing caught live fish from your inventory. Stored fish will swim around and can be re-caught later!
Organic Garden Foliage Layout
- Wildflower Clusters: Mix standard flowers with hybridized flowers (like Blue Cosmos or Pink Tulips) in triangular clusters to simulate natural meadows.
- Lighting Design: Place Copper Street Lanterns or hang Fairy Lights on tree trunks to illuminate your pathways during night hours.
- Obstacle Integration: Instead of clearing away all natural boulders and ancient trees, design your paths to wind around them to create an authentic woodland feel.
